The XD5300 series expansion enclosures offer highly flexible drive configurations to meet your storage expansion requirements.

Chassis models of XD5324/XD5316/XD5312 models (large form factor) support a mix and match of 3.5″/2.5″ SAS, NL-SAS HDD, and 2.5″ SAS, SATA SSD.

Small form factor chassis modes (XD5326) support 2.5″ SAS, NL-SAS HDD, and 2.5″ SAS, SATA SSD.

The maximum number of disk drives support depends on the capability of the HBAs and RAID controller cards.

MPIO

Multi-path Storage Access

A load-balanced and fault tolerant storage system must have both hardware and well-defined firmware redundancy protection for all data paths in the system. Hard Disk Drives, backplane, expander physical links, and front-end ports that connect to servers must be fault tolerant.
The XCubeDAS 5300 series Direct Attached Storage units are built with fully redundant paths and protection for every data I/O. XCubeDAS 5300 is compatible with Microsoft Windows MPIO, Clustering and Linux Multi-pathing. Multi-path software within the operating systems can leverage the redundant paths to provide enhanced performance technologies such as load-balancing, path failover, round-robin and dynamic reconfiguration.

 

Zoning

Like Using Multiple Storage Devices in One Box

Zoning allows users to define zones using a specific group of disk slots. Up to 5 zones can be created per system. Each zone can be assigned to one or more 12Gb/s SAS ports. This zoning feature enables better security control, even in the direct-attached system scenario. Different zones can be used for multiple host servers that connect to the same DAS systems and yet can still have different access control for different zones.

Versatile Topologies

Adapt Various Connections Freely

The QSAN XD5300 Series DAS features all 12Gb/s SAS topologies and variations of all host and expansion port configurations. All 12Gb/s SAS topologies are supported. These include, Cascade, Reverse, and Tree. With up to 10 12Gb/s SAS ports, the XD5300 series DAS can be attachded freely to fit various connections to host servers. This feature is vital for users to plan a well-defined resource arrangement to achieve highly utilized performance and capacity of the XD5300 system.

Cascade

The cascade connection is a daisy-chain topology that connects each device in series to the next.

Reverse

One path is a cascade topology; the other is a reverse cascade to prevent a single point of failure.

Tree

The tree topology will shorten the connection path to achieve balanced performance.

Runtime Configuration

Automatic Detection without Setting

The XD5300 controllers host and expansion ports can be configured and changed IN / OUT5 during runtime for different applications and environment requirements. The setting is effective immediately without rebooting the system. The 5 IN, 4 IN / 1 OUT, or 3 IN / 2 OUT configurations displayed below are recommended for better performance utilization.
