StarWind Virtual Tape Library
StarWind Virtual Tape Library (VTL) assists businesses in eliminating their costly tape backup process while meeting regulatory data archival and retention requirements by using Virtual Tape Libraries hosted on-premise with cloud & object storage tiering. Protect critical backups from ransomware by storing them air-gapped on virtual tapes. Replicate and tier your backups to Azure, AWS, or any other public cloud to maximise the storage cost-efficiency and security. Finally, utilise any industry-standard object storage array for the ability to scale the local storage flexibly.
Archival and vaulting, another company’s pain, became faster and not that tedious and expensive thanks to StarWind Virtual Tape Library. Double Fine automated their media asset backups while keeping them within their grasp in B2 cloud storage. This approach turned out to be far more cost efficient than shipping LTO offsite.

StarWind VTL Benefits
VTL integrates seamlessly and does not require changes to your established backup and archival process. Included support for data migration solutions like Amazon Snowball, Azure Data Box, Backblaze Fireball, and others makes the process streamlined.
VTL will automate and secure your offsite backups and archivies by eliminating the human process and the need to transfer physical tapes offsite. At rest storage reliability is also higher with the ability to select geo-redundant storage with individual fault tolerance levels.
RETURN ON INVESTMENT
VTL offers up to x10 times faster than LTO. It is also less expensive to operate and maintain than LTO solutions. The added cloud and object storage support giving you a storage system that will scale to your needs and will become more and more cost efficient over time.
StarWind VTL Features
Scale-Up and Scale-Out
StarWind VTL enables both scale-up & scale-out architectures. Capacity gets transparently increased automatically by local object storage combined with public cloud storage. Add more VTL instances to scale the performance and shrink the backup window by running multiple parallel backup operations.
Cloud Storage Support
StarWind VTL will transparently extend existing on-premises backup storage pools to AWS, Azure or many other public cloud services. This feature serves two purposes. Firstly, organisations can effortlessly scale up the storage capacity without needing to purchase any additional hardware. Secondly, public cloud storage offers the most attractive $/GB rate for long-term data archival.
On-premises S3 Object Storage Support
StarWind VTL will dramatically simplify storage management for organisations by interconnecting isolated storage silos. VTL allows using any industry-standard object based storage array to expand local storage pools. By doing this, VTL unifies storage management and automates the organisation’s data flow between primary backup storage, the on-premises object storage, and public cloud storage.
Ransomware can’t encrypt tape libraries! This means that virtual tape is a safer backup repository when compared to NAS or SAN storage. Plus, by storing additional copies in a cloud system such as Amazon S3 and Glacier will deliver complete data security from Ransomware even if the entire on-premises infrastructure is compromised.
StarWind Web-based Management
StarWind Web-based Management provides IT system admins with the ability to access and manage their StarWind storage infrastructure via a HTML5 web console from any location. This functionality delivers full control over storage-related operations from PC, Android, iOS or Windows mobile devices.
