What Is Gladinet Triofox?

Triofox is Gladinet's enterprise-focused product — a single-tenant, HTTPS-based storage gateway designed specifically for internal IT teams and CIOs who need to modernise their existing on-premises file server infrastructure without the disruption, cost, and risk of a full cloud migration. Where CentreStack is built for MSPs managing multiple client tenants, Triofox is built for a single organisation managing its own environment.

The core proposition is straightforward: Triofox sits in front of your existing Windows file server and transforms it into a secure, remotely accessible cloud file server. Users access their files through a native mapped drive letter on Windows, mounted volumes on Mac, or native apps on iOS and Android — all over HTTPS, completely eliminating the need for slow, unreliable VPN connections. No data migration required. No folder restructuring. No re-permissioning. Your file server stays exactly where it is, and Triofox simply makes it accessible from everywhere.

Active Directory integration is the drop-in kind. Triofox imports and automatically enforces existing AD identities and granular NTFS folder permissions across every access method. If a user has read-only access to a folder on the local network, they have read-only access through Triofox as well — no exceptions, no re-configuration. This is the single most important differentiator against SharePoint and OneDrive, which require rebuilding permissions from scratch during migration.

Global file locking works automatically when files are opened for editing — whether in Microsoft Word, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Cloud, or any other application. This prevents the version conflicts and "conflicting copy" files that plague consumer-grade sync tools. For organisations working with large files — engineering drawings, architectural plans, media assets — Triofox supports binary differential sync that only transfers the changed portions of files, reducing bandwidth by up to 99%.

On-demand sync minimises bandwidth and local storage consumption by caching only the files users actually open. Users can also selectively mark folders for offline access, which automatically synchronise when connectivity is restored. Ransomware protection monitors for suspicious rapid file changes, blocks compromised endpoints, and provides snapshot-based versioning for rapid recovery.

Triofox deploys on a standard Windows Server with IIS and SQL Server. It is storage-agnostic — it works with local NAS/SAN, Amazon S3, Azure Blob, Google Cloud Storage, Wasabi, or OpenStack Swift as the backend. This gives enterprise IT teams the flexibility to use whatever storage makes sense for their environment, including hybrid configurations that span on-premises and cloud storage.

Who Is This For?

Enterprise IT teams and CIOs modernising file server access without VPN dependency
Organisations with strict data sovereignty requirements who cannot migrate data to SharePoint or OneDrive
Engineering, architecture, and construction firms needing remote access to large CAD/BIM files
Healthcare, legal, and financial services organisations requiring granular access controls and audit trails
Businesses with distributed workforces and branch offices needing consistent file access across locations

How It Compares

Triofox competes with SharePoint/OneDrive, Citrix ShareFile, Egnyte, and VPN-based remote access — and wins on preservation of existing infrastructure. The fundamental problem with SharePoint and OneDrive for enterprise file access is migration. Moving tens of terabytes of structured file server data into SharePoint means rebuilding folder hierarchies, recreating permissions, retraining users, and dealing with SharePoint's notorious limitations on file sizes, path lengths, and special characters. For many organisations, this migration alone takes six to twelve months and costs more than the annual subscription. Triofox eliminates the entire migration by sitting in front of the existing file server and providing HTTPS access directly. Against Citrix ShareFile, Triofox offers stronger file server integration. ShareFile's strength is secure document portals and e-signatures — it was never designed to be a transparent replacement for a Windows file server. Triofox's AD and NTFS preservation happens automatically, making it a genuine "drop-in" modernisation layer. Against Egnyte, Triofox wins on cost and deployment flexibility. Egnyte is a premium SaaS platform priced for large enterprises — Triofox is self-hosted software that organisations deploy on their own infrastructure (or cloud IaaS), giving them complete control over data residency, performance, and cost. For Australian organisations that cannot send data offshore or into third-party SaaS platforms, Triofox's self-hosted model is the only viable option. Against traditional VPN, the comparison is not even close. VPN performance degrades catastrophically with large file operations, provides no file locking, no caching, no offline access, and no audit trail. Triofox over HTTPS is faster, more secure, and gives users a native desktop experience rather than a remote desktop session.
