About NAKIVO

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is a top-rated, fast, and affordable data protection solution for virtual, physical, cloud, and SaaS environments. The platform delivers end-to-end backup, replication, and disaster recovery capabilities through a single web-based interface, so IT teams and MSPs can protect an entire heterogeneous environment without juggling a separate tool for each workload type.

NAKIVO supports VMware vSphere (6.0 through 8.0, plus VMware Cloud Director), Microsoft Hyper-V (2012 R2 through 2022), Nutanix AHV, Proxmox VE, Amazon EC2, physical Windows and Linux servers and workstations, NAS file shares over SMB and NFS, and Microsoft 365 (Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams). Deployment is deliberately flexible: install directly on Windows or Linux, deploy as a virtual appliance on VMware, Hyper-V or Nutanix, run it on a NAS device from QNAP, Synology, ASUSTOR or WD, or launch it as an AWS AMI — whichever fits the infrastructure that's already in place.

Recovery is where NAKIVO earns its reputation. Flash VM Boot brings a VM back online directly from the backup file rather than waiting for a full restore, and the same platform handles granular recovery of individual files, folders, Exchange objects and Active Directory objects. Cross-platform recovery lets a VMware VM come back as a Hyper-V VM and vice versa, and instant P2V recovery covers physical machines. Automated screenshot verification confirms every backup is actually recoverable — not just that the job completed — which removes the classic backup blind spot of discovering a restore doesn't work during an actual outage.

On the protection side, backups can be written immutable to Amazon S3, Wasabi, Azure Blob, Backblaze B2 or Linux repositories, closing off the most common ransomware attack path of encrypting or deleting the backups themselves. Backups are scanned for malware before recovery, data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and in transit, and global inline deduplication keeps storage costs down as retention grows.

NAKIVO ships in three editions. Pro Essentials covers the core feature set — backup, replication, instant and granular recovery, immutable storage and encryption. Enterprise Essentials adds cloud and tape targets, deduplication appliance integration, site recovery orchestration, Active Directory integration and multi-tenant mode for MSPs delivering backup-as-a-service. Enterprise Plus adds storage-snapshot-based backup, Oracle Database backup via RMAN, an HTTP API integration kit, role-based access control and federated repositories for larger, more complex environments. Per-workload licensing means cost scales with what's actually being protected rather than a flat per-server fee, which is a large part of why NAKIVO has become a popular platform for MSPs building profitable backup services on top of it.
