StoneFly Cloud Storage (SCS)
Cloud Storage Presented as Local — Via Smart Cloud Gateway
StoneFly Cloud Storage (SCS) is cloud storage that your applications see as a local drive. It bundles with the StoneFly Smart Cloud Gateway (available as a physical appliance or virtual machine), which translates S3 cloud storage into standard SMB, NFS, and iSCSI protocols. Your applications, databases, and file shares connect to what looks like local storage — they don't know they're using cloud underneath.
The Smart Cloud Gateway includes an NVMe SSD FlashCache that keeps frequently accessed (hot) data local for high-speed access, while infrequently accessed (cold) data auto-tiers to cloud storage based on configurable policies. This gives you the performance of local storage for active workloads with the virtually unlimited capacity of the cloud for everything else. It's ideal for file shares, medical imaging (PACS/DICOM), surveillance video, databases, and capacity expansion without buying more hardware.
Like SCV, pricing is flat rate per TB per month with no egress fees, no API fees, and no data retrieval costs. Available across 16 global regions including Sydney. The key difference from SCV is that SCS is designed for primary and secondary storage workloads (backup is only part of the story), and requires the Smart Cloud Gateway to present cloud storage as local protocols. Partners quote SCS as a single line item — gateway plus storage — through CRS.
Protocols
SMB/CIFS, NFS, iSCSI (via Smart Cloud Gateway)
Gateway
Smart Cloud Gateway (physical appliance or VM)
Caching
NVMe SSD FlashCache for hot data local-speed access
Tiering
Automated hot→cold tiering by configurable policy
Pricing
Flat rate per TB/month — no egress, no API, no retrieval fees
APAC Regions
Sydney (AU), Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore
Certifications
SOC-2, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, HIPAA, GDPR
Scalability
Unlimited — petabyte-scale cloud capacity
SCS competes with Azure File Sync, AWS Storage Gateway, and Nasuni as a cloud-presented-as-local storage solution. Azure File Sync is decent but locks you into the Microsoft ecosystem and charges egress. AWS Storage Gateway is functional but complex and expensive at scale. Nasuni is excellent but priced for large enterprise. SCS offers a simpler, more affordable path: one gateway, flat-rate cloud storage, no egress fees, and it works with any application that speaks SMB, NFS, or iSCSI. For Australian organisations that need to expand storage without CapEx hardware purchases, SCS is the most straightforward option.
One of the advantages of working with CRS — we can recommend the best combination of vendors for your specific needs.
