What Is QSAN XCubeDAS?

The XCubeDAS (XD5300 series) is QSAN's fully redundant JBOD expansion enclosure system, and it's the secret weapon for organisations that need to scale storage capacity without replacing their existing infrastructure. These aren't your basic drive shelves — they feature active-active dual controllers with cable-less, fully modularised hardware and 12Gb/s SAS 3.0 wide ports for massive bandwidth.

Performance numbers are genuinely impressive: up to 24,000 MB/s sequential read throughput and over 4.2 million IOPS by distributing I/O loads through multiple paths. That means your expansion enclosures won't become the bottleneck when you add capacity — a common problem with cheaper JBOD units from other vendors.

The XCubeDAS works as a JBOD expansion for QSAN's own XCubeSAN, XCubeNXT, and XCubeFAS arrays, but it also plays nicely with Windows Storage Spaces and any server equipped with SAS HBAs. If you're doing HPC, building cloud storage pools, or running bandwidth-hungry 4K/8K video workflows, the XCubeDAS gives you the raw capacity and throughput to keep up.

Who Is This For?

Data centre storage expansions — add petabytes without forklift upgrades
High-Performance Computing (HPC) clusters needing raw throughput
Cloud storage pools and object storage backends
Bandwidth-hungry 4K/8K video editing and broadcasting environments
Organisations scaling existing QSAN arrays with additional capacity

How It Compares

The XCubeDAS competes with Dell PowerVault expansion shelves and NetApp disk shelves. Both are solid products, but they're priced as premium accessories to premium arrays. QSAN's DAS delivers genuine 12Gb/s SAS 3.0 throughput with fully redundant active-active controllers — and at a fraction of the cost. The cable-less modular design is a nice touch that reduces cabling complexity in dense rack environments. For Australian organisations expanding their storage footprint, the XCubeDAS delivers tier-1 expansion performance at a mid-market price.
