QSAN XF3 Series

QSAN XF3 Series — Cost-Optimised NVMe Block Storage

PCIe Gen4 NVMe block, entry tier.

Hardware Appliance

What Is the QSAN XF3 Series?

The QSAN XF3 series (XF3212) is the cost-optimised entry to QSAN's new XEVO 3 NVMe block array line. Designed for Australian customers who need NVMe block storage performance without flagship pricing, the XF3 strikes a deliberate balance between cost and capability — fully modular dual-path redundancy, six-nines availability, and XEVO 3 NVMe acceleration on a 12-bay 2U chassis.

XEVO 3 is QSAN's new generation flash-block management OS. Complete RAID protection (0/1/3/5/6/10/30/50/60 plus N-way mirror plus RAID EE for fast rebuilds), QThin thin provisioning with space reclamation, QSnap snapshots up to 4096 per system, QReplica synchronous and asynchronous replication, Cache-to-Flash protection via M.2 modules and battery backup. Dual-active SAN controllers with NTB-bus cache mirroring, ALUA, multipath I/O, zero-downtime firmware updates. VMware VAAI, Microsoft Hyper-V ODX, Citrix XenServer certifications.

QSAN positions the XF3 for cloud collaboration, large-scale surveillance, and edge-computing workloads where IOPS matter but customers can't justify XF5 prices. The shared chassis platform with the [XN3 series](/vendors/qsan/products/xn3-series) unified array gives partners an upgrade story: start with XF3 block, swap controllers later for XN3 when file protocols become a requirement on the same chassis.

Who Is This For?

Large-scale surveillance recording at the storage tier
Edge-computing deployments needing NVMe performance at modest budgets
AI inference clusters and HPC workloads under XF5-class budgets
Mid-market virtualisation where IOPS matter more than capacity

How It Compares

The XF3 sits opposite Dell PowerVault ME5 all-flash, HPE MSA 2060 SFF, and Infortrend EonStor entry NVMe. Dell wins on brand recognition; QSAN wins on third-party drive support, included data services (no per-feature licensing), and the XEVO 3 mirrored-firmware HA architecture. Australian partners replacing aging Dell ME4 / HPE MSA arrays should compare XF3 carefully — the architecture is materially newer and the licensing model is cleaner.
