QSAN XN1 Series — Workgroup Desktop NAS
Compact desktop NAS for workgroups, branch offices and project teams.
The QSAN XN1 series is the workgroup-tier desktop NAS in QSAN's lineup — a compact, quiet, all-in-one box designed for small teams, branch offices, project rooms and remote workgroups that need shared file storage with proper data integrity. Two models, the XN1205 and XN1209, give you a five-bay or nine-bay desktop chassis without the rack-mount overhead or the noise of a server-room appliance.
Where the XN1 differs from the obvious Synology and QNAP comparisons is the underlying QSM 4 operating system, which sits on a 128-bit ZFS file system. That means real data integrity (silent corruption detection and self-healing checksums), proper snapshot and replication support, and an enterprise-grade security stack — WORM, pool encryption, SED, advanced ACLs — at SOHO pricing. It's the same data-protection feature set as QSAN's enterprise lines, just packaged for the desk-side.
For Australian customers, the XN1 is a sensible answer for branch-office file shares, design-studio scratch storage, accountant-firm document repositories, and any workgroup that's outgrown a USB drive but doesn't need a rack-mount system. We size and ship it with the right drive load-out for your workload — and back it with local AU support so you're not left chasing tickets at 2am.

The XN1 lands directly on top of Synology DS-series and QNAP TS-x53 desktop NAS units — and yes, those vendors have larger app ecosystems with more third-party integrations. The trade-off worth understanding is what's inside: Synology and QNAP run their own embedded Linux file systems with snapshot and replication features layered on top. QSM 4 is built on 128-bit ZFS from the ground up, which gives you genuine data-integrity guarantees (checksum-based silent-corruption detection, self-healing) plus a security stack that matches QSAN's enterprise lines. For Australian buyers who care about data integrity over app breadth, the XN1 is the pragmatic answer at this tier.
One of the advantages of working with CRS — we can recommend the best combination of vendors for your specific needs.
NAKIVO
Use the XN1 as a NAKIVO backup repository for SMB VM workloads — NFS or SMB shares with WORM-protected retention.
