Zendesk native is a data export, not a backup

Zendesk provides CSV and XML exports for tickets, users, and organisations. This is useful for compliance archiving, but it is not a backup. There is no automated scheduling, no point-in-time recovery, and no way to restore a single ticket without manually re-importing data.

The 30-day recycle bin catches deleted tickets, but archived tickets (solved more than 120 days) that are deleted bypass the bin entirely and are immediately gone. Bulk-deleted tickets land in the bin but disappear after 30 days with no recovery path.

Configuration objects: the gap nobody talks about

Zendesk automations, triggers, macros, views, and forms have no backup, no version history, and no undo. If someone accidentally modifies a complex trigger that routes tickets across five teams, there is no way to see what it looked like before the change. If a departing admin deletes macros the support team depends on, those macros are gone.

Keepit backs up all of these configuration objects and allows individual recovery. Restore a single trigger to its state from last Tuesday, or roll back your entire Zendesk configuration to a known-good snapshot. This alone justifies the $2.95/agent/month cost for most support organisations.

Enhanced Disaster Recovery is not the answer

Zendesk offers Enhanced Disaster Recovery (EDR) on Enterprise plans, starting at approximately $215/agent/month. EDR provides faster failover in the event of a Zendesk outage, but it does not protect configuration objects (automations, triggers, macros, views). It does not provide point-in-time recovery. It does not protect against accidental deletion or malicious changes by internal users.

EDR solves infrastructure resilience. Keepit solves data and configuration protection. They are different problems.

What about Rewind for Zendesk?

Rewind has announced Zendesk backup, but as of May 2026 it remains in early access. Users must request an invitation and wait for access. Rewind's Zendesk product is not generally available, does not have published pricing, and does not have production track record.
